ha, i finally cleaned up the like 30 deviations that were sitting in my inbox. and gave real comments! booya!

i'm still in school, chuggin' along as usual. i've been working a lot (though still not as much as i need to) on my junior thesis and art project. i'm designing a mechanical owl. i had these crazy ideas in my head once upon a time at the beginning of the semester to actually put it together since we were learning to weld in my sculpture class, but that will not pan out in the least before the end of the month. i really want to draw for fun, because i dunno, i've been seeing a lot of cool stuff that seniors have been doing here, and i'm excited for my senior show next year, and i've been looking at a lot of cool people on deviantART do cool stuff, and it's finally springy in the fuckpit of the US that is ohio, and i'm feeling bouncy and creative again. but i don't have the time to and don't wanna risk taking it if it means i'm screwed out of time to work on I.S.! it's kinda driving me crazy. at the very least i'll need to do stuff for fun over the summer. i don't have a job lined up yet, but i'm either going to take classes or have one of my mom's co-workers tutor me in photoshop and indesign and the like. also i want to solidify my ideas for senior I.S. i wanna make a comic book, but i have to pick a story and do all the prep stuff. but seriously, how cool will it be when i'm all like "man i gotta do research" and then i just go read comics. that will be awesome. (don't get me wrong, though, i'd still really like a job cuz fuck am i sick of being broke.)

aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaawwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww

EDIT:
have i ever mentioned how much i hate their submission categorization system? it's simultaneously terribly inefficient and kind of condescending. why, under "drawings -> sketches & rough works," are there four sub-sub-sub-headings that all lead to your scraps gallery? why is "sketches & rough works" even necessary? why not just have "drawings -> scraps"? god forbid you want to submit a drawing you'd call a "cartoon." if you didn't make something related to comics, in one form or another ("manga (comics)" or "other comics"), you don't get an actual category. you get "other." god forbid you're not a weeaboo with a prolific new death note doujinshi but someone who creates something out of their own head and doesn't feel right trying to squeeze their work into one of dA's other irrationally-vague-but-overlapping categories. not to mention the fact that, after "drawing" you can either pick "comic, cartoon & manga" OR "anime & manga," the latter of which is actually less specific.

but, really, when it comes right down it, i guess what gets me the most is... why the hell does anthro deserve its own category?

a sigh of relief

voting is important!

i'm taking a cue from *psychoe and encouraging all u.s. citizens who see this (and are old enough) to please register to vote!!

if you don't think it's important -- you're wrong. plain and simple, regardless of who or what you're going to vote for, voting matters. there are plenty of nations in the world where voting is not option, and you'd probably be surprised by how many. when you hear awful things about what's going on in sudan and burma, and other places like them, it's happened because the people have no voice in the control of their country. no matter what you think about the state of OUR nation and the people who lead it, you have to realize that we are truly privileged to have a say in our government, and it's not a right that we should abuse or turn our backs on.

if you're young, and you don't believe things like the economy or the housing crisis or taxes are going to affect you anytime soon, you're wrong there, too. even if you're just starting college and you still get money from mom and dad, just think about how all of this business is going to affect them. and when you vote for our higher public offices, like congressmen and our president, you're electing someone for years at a time. if houses don't matter to you now, ask yourself if they will in four years. or even two. think about when you're going to get your first credit card, join a bank, buy a car, or become financially independent. sure, it's not tomorrow, or probably even next week, but whatever decisions you make, or don't make, right now will have a serious effect on your future.

things are happening now in this country. serious things. bad things. something has to be done about them, and it's not a time when we can afford to have no opinions. so do some research, think about what matters to you, and what will matter down the line.

here's a video that will give you some information and hopefully change your mind, if i haven't yet.

PLEASE, get yourself registered, wherever you're living or going to school, before it's too late! and then, y'know, follow up on that and vote in november.

i finally have some! and it's only taken me three weeks!

so suffice it to say, i've been very busy. i have also been rather crafty; i'm almost half done with the avatar blanket, and i made two hats last week. i've been cruising amazon for pattern books, too, and eBay for auctions on awesome yarn. XD it's pretty dorky. a friend and i are looking to start a crochet & knitting group on campus, though, which is exciting (if you're into that sorta thing.)

we had a wicked windstorm here last night. no rain or anything, just 50-60mph winds. tons of trees are down (or part-down), and we lost power for nine hours... but didn't get any classes cancelled, which was rather disappointing this morning. it was crazy to be outside, though, because the clouds were purple and pink and kinda green, and they were moving so fast, and the wind just sounded monstrous. we were lucky to get our power back, though. columbus, which is about an hour or two south of us, isn't expected to have it back till the end of the week.

in other exciting news, joe biden is coming to speak at our campus on wednesday. i'm geeked. this is the first presidential election i get to vote in, and i actually have strong feelings about it! it'll be cool to hear what he has to say, too, and to get involved in what's going on. makes me feel very grown-up.
